A monocristalline cylinder is the result
of a slowly and controlled melting of alumina
powder. A dinstictive feature is its hardness
which is only exceeded by the diamond.
Further important properties are the
resistance to corrosion, to high temperatures
and to chemical agents; its high transparency
is an advantage for optical properties as
in optical equipment or in the watch industry.
Thanks to the single crystal structure,
the sapphire shows high precision in different
applications.
